The Last Bookstore is the largest used and new book store in California. Take a look at this Short portrait documentary on how this amazing space came to be.
The founder and owner Josh Spencer was hit by a car and paralyzed. Despite the accident, chair and decade-long depression he didn't let it stop him from going to garage sales and library sales to pick up inventory to begin building his online book store. Today his little book dream and great love for books has grown to 22,000 sq feet of books, records, art and even art studios all in the old Crocker National Bank that helped set up Los Angeles' economy in 1914. It's a neighborhood treasure.
"I've lost things in my life much more traumatic than a business. There's not much that could compete with that. If I can deal with that I can certainly deal with a business failing...so...yea...no fear."
My favorite part of this Short is when Josh says he tries to instill their love for books with their daughter but if she grows up and isn't a book worm, that's ok because he doesn't care what other people think. Good parenting, let your child be who they want to be and don't care too much about "keeping up" with others and all the labels we're asked to subscribe to in order to appear "interesting". Just be who you are and go after the things you love.
