Art Vs Writing

Art can be seen as superfluous. But art and creativity are extensions of ourselves and have potential to change minds and shift thinking.
Art can document time; a path to sociopolitical, cultural, philosophies, history and mysterious intimacy with souls of the past. It can be an affectionate window into a person, a spirit, a perspective alien to us and a moment existing on an unending spectrum of time.
Expression is really important to me. My main subject to express in art and writing is based on mini-memoirs of my life mostly encompassed around my current struggles derived from a progressive disease that relentlessly shifts my abilities. Commercial art is easy, I’m unattached but personal art is a different animal. Many times I find putting myself into personal art is a more difficult emotional confrontation than writing. It also takes forever for me to finish a drawing where writing is quicker and effortless.
With art it’s more difficult to explain such a complex world brewing inside of me in a single simplified drawing. I also often find art more exposing than writing which isn’t necessarily true...maybe that perception has more to do with my process than the final result itself.
Sure, writing out my feelings can be difficult and sometimes accompanied by tears as I reflect and share, but with art I really have to be in the right headspace. I sometimes avoid it while mentally walking a neverending thinking circle. Before I know it I’ve created my own ditch of limitation that I can’t seem to get out of which can be frustrating because with ADA technology, like eye-tracking software, I’ll be able to write for forever. But my art has a shelf life, although with progress and technology I don’t think this indefinitely.
But according to today, my days of drawing are limited so I would rather focus on art over writing. At the same time, I am an in-the-moment kind of person so whatever tool is at my fingertips to explain this difficult relationship, I subscribe and bend to that. As David Lunch says, the ideas find you. With that, I’m working on new art and hope to share soon. Until then, express yourself.
